	Le Grand Meaulnes tells the adventure which begins when Augustin Meaulnes borrows a horse and cart to meet people at the station. He becomes lost and comes to a half-ruined manor. There is a fete: the son of the house is bringing home his fiancée. Augustin meets a young girl. The son comes back alone. The fete ends abruptly. In the night, a farmer drives Augustin part of the way back. The young man sleeps in the wagon. Once back to Sainte-Agathe school, he is unable to find out where he has been. The story tells the efforts of Augustin and François to rediscover "the strange manor" of the "lost land". What is happiness ? To look for or to find ? The almost word for word translation makes the book a great tool to learn French while enjoying one of the most striking visions of adolescence ever written.
